Sir,

No. 1.

From the Director of Public Works to the Colonial Secretary.

83 C.O. 46436

Received 17 DEC 06

Public Works Department, Hongkong, 1st October, 1908.

Adverting to G.S. No. 3547/1903, I have to forward a letter from Messrs. Leigh and Orange, on behalf of the owner of Marine Lot 289, asking that the opportunity be taken, now that the Military Electric Light Emplacement opposite his godown doors has been seriously damaged by the typhoon, to have it shifted to the eastward (see plan attached).

I do not know that the foundations of this structure have suffered, but, if the Military Authorities do contemplate entirely rebuilding, it might be well to point out to them the detriment in its present position that the emplacement is to the lot-owner who paid a high rate per foot for the land and perhaps they would be good enough to arrange for a change of site.

I have etc.,

(Signed) H. Chatham, Director of Public Works.

To the Honourable The Colonial Secretary.
